Here are just a few stories and or photos, from those that have been through this drywall repair process or other repairs. These homes are just a few that have been documented as being repaired or having problems. The total home count reported to Channel 8 news on 9/25/2007 was 100 homes for drywall repair. I wonder how many more were not counted for other issues like driveway or re-grading issues.

We bought our house June 2006 and moved in right away. Being our first home we could not wait to get in. We where in our home for 1 month and had guests come in for a weekend. When they took a shower in the guest bath they noticed the wall getting wet at the shower head. Lennar sent their plumbers over and found that no sealant was used on the threads of the shower neck. He sealed it and that was it, 5 min and gone.

Over the course of the next couple of months we sent in numerous complaints of 2 particular roof leaks. Their workers said no problems found 2 to 3 times and then on the last time out they found a loose shingle. Now we are in the dead of winter, January 2007. I was standing in our dining room talking on the phone and watched a crack in the sheet rock grow large enough to stick my thumb into. When Lennar’s Customer Care Representative came she informed us that it was very unusual and that she would have to talk with her manager on how to address it.

Weeks went by so we sent another request and we where told that they are having multiple houses with the same problem. They will be having a meeting about it and get back to us. When they finally got back to us, they told us that we would have to move out and make the repairs. So then it was set up to do in the middle of March. We explained to them that we could not do it then. We got legal advice and proceeded with Lennar to make repairs.

We got a letter from Lennar Easter weekend with the price break down of the compensation which had gone up tremendously. The following Tuesday we sat down with them and discussed that we would move out May 14th and be out of our home 2 weeks. May 3rd we were suppose to get our first comp check so we could pay for our hotel room and animal boarding. No check was delivered so On Friday the 4th of May we called our rep and left a message. On Monday May 7th we did the same.

When I got home from work I talked with a neighbor and he gave me another reps number. When we called him we were told that our rep had a death in his family and that he would check on our case. When he called back he informed me that we were on track to move out on May 14th as scheduled. Unfortunately our check request was not turned in and we couldn’t get a check until May 17th. When I asked to reschedule the repairs he told me that it would be the middle of July. My wife and I decided to pay out of pocket and we proceeded with our scheduled date. Because when Lennars Inspector came in to inspect our house he found that there was incorrect nail patterns on the sheet rock and numerous problems with our truss system including missing supports. This made us feel unsafe in the spot you should feel the safest. So we wanted it done ASAP.

So our weekend of May12th and 13th was spent with packers and movers. May 14th we moved out and the repairs started. Coming to our house everyday to watch the reconstruction. Everyday we took pictures and talked with the workers that spoke English. On May 17th, my wife was told “BAD HOUSE, BAD HOUSE, YOU DON’T WANT HOUSE NO MORE” while he was shaking his head. When we talked to our rep he assured us that the house is ok. We were on schedule to move in on May 28th. I informed them that I wanted the house inspected by a third party and he could not inspect it until May 29th.

So our move in date was moved to Thursday the 31st of May. Our inspector found numerous problems including out door frames out of square, some more than ½ inch. All of our walls that had been cut was wavy and our entry way to the hall was warped in more ways than one. During all of this my wife has lost her job and the stress was building so high that my wife and I was fighting everyday over the smallest things. We quit smoking January of 2007 and well the habit is back and I will leave it at that.

Now we are told that we will be another week so they can fix the new problems in our home. The sheet rockers say it is the framers and the framers say it is the sheet rock. Lennars rep even told me the trim above the door was not off of our front door. I showed the Lennars rep the pictures of the trim guy in front of the front door with no trim around it. Surprised by our photos he back tracked and could not give us a straight answer. So we went back to our room just to have our house set empty while Lennars Sub Contractors pointed fingers at each other. I finally asked Lennars rep whose fault he thought it was and he did not know. My wife and I met him at the house and put a level on the hall entry and found that the framing was ok. We told him that if the frame is level the it had to be the sheet rockers. As he agreed we talked about all the lost time and he informed us he already turned in another week’s check. He also asked if my wife could meet him the next day with the sheet rockers and his manger to discuss the wavy walls.

That morning she called me upset on my cell phone and put his manager on. As he started out telling me that our house looks right and that the sheet rock is in code. I informed him that I wanted a code provided for me and then he said the unthinkable to me. “MR. HASS I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT, THIS IS TYPICAL REMODEL WORK.” I screamed “THAT WE DID NOT BUY A REMODELED HOUSE.” When he got off the phone he told his guys “WHATEVER MRS. HASS WANTS SHE GETS.” To this day I don’t even want to know how much mud was used on my walls, nor how much caulk was used at every crack, corner or seam. Does everyone know that where your wall and ceiling meet is supposed to be caulked?

By now all of my door frames had been fixed, sort of. But neither our hall entry nor the column at our bar had been fixed. They had to open it back up and try again, and again. When we finally said ok this is the best you can do we schedule to move in. It was set for June 23rd and we were told our house would be Q & A as a “NEW HOME!” That Saturday, my wife called me again screaming. No Lennar rep to be found and our house is a wreck. Our Linoleum was torn. There were tampon wrappers in our bathrooms and filth everywhere. Our painting was not complete and more nicks to mention. So we went to Home Depot and got cleaning supplies to clean up there mess. My family even came to help.

On Monday as usual our rep is lost for words. He gets the painters there ASAP and guess what, the brought the wrong sheen of paint. Now we have semi gloss walls with satin (dull) touchup. Lennars painter told us a few weeks later that he would have to repaint the entire house to fix it. During this time we were waiting to have numerous lighting problems fixed including shorts at the switches. To be continued!
