Lennar has officially sold their ownership of lots in Huttoparke and have turned them over to a small builder out of Texas. 1st Home Texas is now offering $100 move in specials for their homes in Huttoparke ranging from $112-$132K. Current residents are concerned with this unannounced move by Lennar. Lennar corporation, who has been picketed since 2007 by Huttoparke residents over construction defects, is the number two builder in the US and could not be reached for comment. What kind of statement does it say when a builder of that size abandons one of their unfinished communities? It could say that there is hope for the little guy and communities when tackling a goliath corporation as massive as Lennar.

One thing many Huttoparke residents have learned is you must research your builder before buying. When investing in what many call "the largest investment of your life" you must lay the ground work to protect yourself. Those of you who are buying into Huttoparke, read the bylaws of the HOA, research your builders warranty work, look at your contractual documents and most of all, HAVE YOUR HOME INSPECTED BY YOUR OWN INDEPENDENT INPECTOR (BEFORE BUYING). Other things to consider are binding arbitration clauses in home contracts that take away your right to a court of law if any disputes arise. It never hurts to involve an attorney when going over legal documents and although it may cost some money up front, it is sure to protect you in the long run from losses that could be incurred in todays home buying process.
